The privacy policy outlines your rights, and my obligations to you, with regard to the recording and storage of your personal information. 

Personal information is any information that can be used to identify you, such as for example your name, address, telephone number or email address.

I will treat your personal information in a way that is compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The lawful and proper treatment of your personal information is important to me and I am committed to protecting your privacy when dealing with your personal information.

How will I collect your personal information?

I will collect your personal information in the following ways: via my website, over the telephone, by email, and in person during our sessions.

How will I store your personal information? 

I will store your personal information both electronically and physically:

  • Electronically on devices that are password protected and in files that are further password protected and only accessible by me. Names and contact details are stored separately to other personal information which I will keep in an anonymised format.

  • Physically using paper records held securely in locked storage in an anonymised format. These records are also only accessible by me.

What type of personal information will I collect about you?

  • Before we begin therapy: when you contact me about the counselling service I will collect your first, last name, email, contact number and brief summary of your enquiry.

  • Once we have agreed that counselling with me is right for you, and your therapy commences, I will collect further information from you that may include: your address, GP contact details, availability, the psychological issues and symptoms that you would like to address.

  • After finishing therapy: I will usually store your information for a minimum of 7 years following the end of your therapy. If you want me to delete your information sooner than this, please tell me.

Your rights:

  • Right to access: as outlined in this document, you have the right to be informed what personal information I hold and request a copy of that personal information

  • Right to rectification: you have the right to check the accuracy of any personal data held and ask for it to be corrected or removed

  • Right to be forgotten: you have the right to have your personal information erased

  • Right to withdraw consent to me holding your personal information. However, if you do this while actively receiving counselling service from me, your counselling would have to end.

  • Right to object: if you would like to object the way your personal information is being handled by me, then do please feel free to communicate this to me at the earliest possible opportunity.

Please note that your rights do not always apply in all cases and I will let you know in correspondence with you how I will be able to comply with your request.
